"We arrived to a beautiful villa, spotlessly clean with a welcome basket brimming with delicious tidbits (including eggs from the resident chickens) juice & milk. Just what we needed after a 2 hour drive from Palermo. The villa is situated one minute out of town and has a view of the valley stretching all the way out to the sea in one patio area (adjoining the house)and in the main patio area (in front of the house) one has a view of farms at the foot of Caltabellotta. The villa has been tastefully created with what can only be described as Sicilian charm without obliterating the original purpose of the building which was once a part of an equine stud farm in the late 1700's; the trough is still in the living room - full of plants and flowers - nice touch. The accommodations are first class with four bedrooms (one with onsuite), total of 3 bathrooms and can sleep up to 10 comfortably. Two spacious living rooms (one upstairs)and a large well equipped kitchen. I guesstimate the square footage at 2800. Security is also first rate with a fence around the property and a remote to open the gate. There are chickens, goats, and a peacock; we even had a fox drop by our patio one morning. No matter when you visit the fresh monuntain air will welcome you. It took me 20 minutes to drive to Sciacca in a large van with 6 people on board - granted the drive would be more fun in a Miata - but either way the scenery is worth it. Lots of excellent restaurants right in Calatbellotta - no need to drive to the coast. This villa is quiet and comfortable. I can pat myself on the back for choosing it but none of this would be possible without Conny Benfari-Fisher - perfect blend of Teutonic efficiency and Sicilian hospitality. Don't want to be just another tourist? Come here."

Familie Kremer 07.2008

If you want to get away from it all, definitely stay at Reggia Di La Curti in Caltabellotta, above Sciacca on the south coast of Sicily. Konny rents out this house and she is wonderful and helpful. This house has two amazing terraces with beautiful views of the mountains and sea. You can pick fresh figs, walnuts, almonds, tomatoes, grapes and you can even get fresh eggs every morning from the chickens which are in a coop down a pathway away from the house. Inside it is beautifully decorated with large bedrooms and bathrooms that work. The house is quiet and surrounded by fruit and olive trees. I can't say enough about it. This was the highlight of our stay in Sicily. We wished we had stayed longer here.

farmhouse in mountains of Sicily, Sicily

When
July 2005, a week

Location
The fabulous old farmhouse we stayed in was up in the mountains at Caltabelotta - 20 minutes down the winding road to the sea - which was glorious. Farmhouse set in its own small estate - with walnut and fig trees just outside the door. Huge patio looking out to Caltabellota close by and down to the farmed land - fresh eggs every morning and vegetables from the garden each day. Tranquil, relaxing, cooling breeze on a scorching day. Beautiful old farmhouse with huge wooden doors opening into a large sitting room with antique furniture. Very relaxed. Everyone welcoming in the small town and so friendly.

Nearby Amenities
Caltabellota a short walk or drive. Local shops with a good selection of goods. Very friendly shopkeepers. Good local restaurants with delicious food and wine.

The House/Apartment
The farmhouse has been in the same family for generations and had been restored and all in good repair. The farmhouse has its own electrically operated gates, very good outside lighting to guide you from the parking area into the terrace area. A short distance from the town but peaceful and far enough away to be secluded and quiet.

Garden
Fabulous view from the large terrace where we spent a lot of time looking out to the mountains and down to the sea. Sunshades and loungers. Large rustic wooden table with benches for alfresco evening meals.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas
Lots of sofas and chairs in the lounges on ground and first floor. Dining room adjoining the very well equipped kitchen. The house was very clean with lovely linen and towels provided. Plenty of room for sitting in all of the areas - very spacious house.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms
Very comfortable beds. Bathrooms on ground and first floor - en suite. All mod cons!

Kitchen
Very useable kitchen - was a joy to cook in as was very well equipped with beautiful individual huge pasta bowls and serving dishes. Had two sinks, good cooker with gas hobs. Very good for making full meals - which I did a lot with all the lovely local produce from the estate and the local town.

Problems or Bonuses
It was so good I recommend everyone to go there!!! Homemade jams - made by the lovely lady that rents the place from produce grown at the farmhouse (gorgeous apricot!). Fresh produce brought to us daily - eggs and veg for no cost at all. How very nice everyone was there - it was so refreshing.

Agency and Representatives (and price)
Konny Fischer loves Caltabellota and is a very sensitive and kind person - she goes very much out of her way to make your holiday something to remember. Easy contact via email and found the place very easily. Konny is German but has lived there a long time - she speaks very good Italian and English and knows everyone! The reality far exceeded the expectation - no words on a website can capture the magic of the place.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes, we hope to arrange to go there again with friends - to share the magic surroundings and to see the wonderful people we met again. Have already recommended to friend who has booked.

Things to do in this area
Fab coastline, lots of Roman remains, interesting towns and villages, beautiful countryside, fabulous people
